Hello! My name is Alyssa. I'm a licensed English teacher with a Bachelor’s degree in English and a minor in Spanish. I've worked as a tutor, classroom teacher, and private teacher. From the fall of 2021 through January of 2022, I created an at-home classroom for two international fourth grade students and taught them according to both their IB curriculum and Common Core. In 2020 and 2021, I taught grades Pre-K through four as a substitute teacher at Placentino Elementary School and Minot Forest Elementary School. Since 2018, I have been a Language Arts, Spanish, Humanities and Test Prep tutor at Personalized Educational Solutions Global, with a focus on tailoring each session to the specific needs and understanding gaps of each child. I have two years of expert experience with online teaching platforms and classroom management (Zoom, Google Meet, Google Classroom, et al). I've worked with students on Individualized Education Plans, both developmental and behavioral. I've shadowed under Andrew Hill, the head of the English department at Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School, and Elizabeth Ward, a beloved English teacher at Worcester Technical School. My main approach to teaching is through encouragement and positive reinforcement: students learn better when they feel supported, and I love to help them navigate learning with confidence in their abilities! Along the way, I have found that keeping kids faithful in their own capabilities as students (and young people) and facilitating a relationship of mutual trust make the best foundation for building respect, and these components are all key in any engaging classroom environment!
