Greetings and welcome to my bio! My name is Carina and I live in Midtown Manhattan. For in-home tutoring I take all precautions with COVID and avoid public transportation by biking to the location if it is in Manhattan. Education has always been a top priority in my life. In a small town in Indiana, my mother started a free preschool to help kids have a head start in school. When I was in the second grade she decided to take full charge of my education and homeschooled me and my sister. We now tell her she was cool before homeschooling was trendy. Since then I went on to attend Indiana University and I have a bachelor degree in elementary education and now a master’s degree in counseling. I currently work part-time (remotely) as a Mental Health Clinician for a private practice. I have worked with kids for over 20 years in various settings, working in a special needs classroom for 7 years, teaching kindergarten, 10 plus years as a nanny, and homeschooling preschoolers for 2 years. I have tutored children pre-K through fifth grade. In preschool we focused on fine motor skills, encouraging the foundation of mathematics, reading and writing. In elementary grades I focus on where the child needs the extra instruction. I have exceptional communication skills with a desire to provide an atmosphere where children can make mistakes, learn and grow from them. I bring a unique perspective of having been a teacher, tutor, nanny and therapist to individualize the instruction for each child I work with. In my free time you can usually find me in Central Park reading a book and hanging out with my Australian Shepherd. I am dependable, flexible and confidential.
