Casey is currently a 4th grade teacher at P.S. 281, The River School, in Murray Hill. She is the Special Education teacher in an ICT classroom. Casey plans differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all her students. She implements personalized behavioral and educational plans for students in order to enhance student performances and personal growth. Throughout the years, she has utilized several social emotional Learning programs to foster a strong sense of community and engage all learners. Casey has been teaching for five years and started her teaching career through Teach for America, teaching 2nd and 3rd grade at Coney Island Prep Elementary School. She then taught 3rd grade at Success Academy Harlem 2, before moving to her current position as a 4th grade ICT teacher at The River School. Casey has taught in an ICT setting, both as the special education and general education teacher. This allows her to differentiate instruction and engage all learners in the curriculum. She has taught students with varying needs and disabilities such as Learning Disabilities, various Behavior Disorders, Speech and Language Impairments, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. While teaching a rigorous curriculum, Casey also implements social emotional learning programs in her classroom, in order to encourage both social and academic growth daily. Casey has experience in New York State Exam test preparation for grades 3-5 in ELA and Math. Casey is trained in the Fountas & Pinnell Reading System, Teachers College Reading and Writing Project, and Engage NY math curriculum. She is also trained in various Social Emotional Learning programs including Toolbox, Movement Therapy, Ruler and Beautiful Me (Self-Esteem Rising). Casey has been tutoring students in all areas of NYC from grades K-6. Casey holds an M.A. in General & Special Education (Grades 1-6) from Relay Graduate School of Education, along with a B.A. in Organization Studies from the University of Michigan.
