BS, Bachelor’s of Science in Biology
I have received my Bachelors of Science in biology from Mercy College. I have been a tutor since late 2018, working first at Sylvan learning center, where I worked with students in different grade levels in a 3:1 ratio setting. I would help them with prepared lessons or any other assignments that they needed assistance with. In preparation for the state exams or the regent exams, the students would be tested using prior exams for specific amount of time, after which I would review the questions with them. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic the center closed in 2022. From December 2021 to March 2023, I worked as a teacher’s assistant with preschool aged children, ages ranging from 3 to 5, to help them develop their cognitive skills, verbal, communication skills, to aid them in learning how to socialize with peers, express their needs and to ensure their safety. From April 2022 to June 2023, I worked as a tutor with the Bridge Golf Foundation. I primarily tutored in the subject of living environment, however, I also tutored in other science related courses, as well as English, history (global/US history) and math (algebra 1), when needed. I worked with the young men enrolled in the after-school program at the Bridge Golf Foundation to help with any homework assignments they need to complete, labs they need to finish, and prepare them for quizzes and exams they may have in the week. Since these young men are all high school students, I worked with them from April to June, in preparing them for the regent exams. During those sessions, the students are given past regent exams to do, and after which we review them by going over the questions and answers and explaining the reasons behind the correct answer. From October 2022 to December 2022, I worked as an instructor for the Baruch STEP program to help students in high school prepare for the living environment regents. Sessions would take place every Saturday from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm, during which I teach the students lessons I prepared, and they would take notes and ask questions pertains to the topic of the lesson being taught. I also used past regent exams to help the students understand the format of the exam and gain practice answering questions that they may see when they take the living environment regent exam in June. From December 2023 to May 2024, I was a High Impact Tutor. During this time, I would go, during school hours, to a middle school M.S. 45, in the Bronx borough, to help a select group of students in the 6th grade with mathematics. I assisted the teacher in helping the students understand the topic in which was being taught, as well as helping them complete math examples, pertaining to that topic. I also prepared questions for the students to answer when they came into the classroom, a do-now for example. The questions prepared were modeled after questions from prior NY math state examinations, which were to help prepare the students for questions that could potentially have been on the state exam. I also work with other organizations for after school programming, primarily in the field of STEM, specifically coding. Since July 2022, I occasionally work with the organization ScholarStem to introduce and teach coding to elementary and middle school students. I go to locations that I am assigned or that is in need of a substitute and work with students on coding-based projects, such as using microbits, makey makey and working with scratch. During this past summer I was a robotics instructor for the organization Play, Study, Win, in which I instructed students in their building robots and completing mission for First Lego League.
