I'm Kathy, a retired Special Education teacher. I retired from school-based teaching at the end of December, 2023 after 35+ years. I have taught children, adolescents, and adults, but my favorite students to teach are K-5. I have also taught in the USA, Mexico, and on the island of Roatan which is part of Honduras. I have experience teaching general education students and students with diverse disabilities. My favorite subject to teach is reading! I love reading and I have always tried to instill a love of reading in my students. I believe that one reason students don't like to read is because it is simply hard for them. Many of us don't like to do things that are difficult. My reading instruction is based on the Science of Reading and I believe in teaching to mastery. I also believe learning should be fun! My ultimate goal is to give every student equal opportunity to learn to read and succeed in school and in life. I am a "snowbird" now. I live in Puerto Vallarta, MX most of the year. When I am not tutoring, I spend my time with my dogs, Paco and Scrappy. They are my partners as I learn about and experience Mexican culture. Although I am not anywhere near fluent in Spanish, I am learning and practicing. I use every opportunity I have to attempt to communicate in Spanish the best I can right now. I love teaching and I love learning!
