Kimberly Fuhr
High School Math Teacher
Introduction:
I have been teaching high school math since 1994. I took a 2 year break from teaching to stay home with my children. After the 2 years, I substituted at all levels at the Phillips School District. When a full-time teaching opportunity became open again, I jumped at the chance to be back in the classroom.
Education:
Degree in Industrial Engineering from UW Madison in 1990. However, after doing an internship, I realized that I would really enjoy teaching math, so I went back to school to get a certificate to teach high school math from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Success stories: I have taught the lowest and highest math classes at my school. At the low levels, I create lesson plans that make the students more comfortable with math by making the lessons interesting and relevant to their lives. At the Calculus level, I have been very successful in aiding students to score well on the Advanced Placement Calculus Exams given by ETS, thus allowing students to save time and money in college.
Skills:
I emphasize problem solving and understanding for my students. I have many creative ways to help students understand a math concept. I can use technology such as Geogebra and Desmos to enhance my lessons.
Teaching Philosophy:
I believe all students are capable of excelling and learning math. All students are different and I believe the techniques used to teach should be different also.
Testimonials:
One student described my patience and perseverance with my students when they said "I don't know how you do it Mrs. Fuhr, all you do is answer questions and help students 24/7"
