Hello parents! My name is Lynell Higgenbotham, and I am a retired educator living in Hammond Louisiana. Hammond is the home of the Southeastern Louisiana University fighting Lions. I have two adult children and three grandchildren. My current hobby is cooking different recipes that I find on Facebook and Pinterest. My formal education achievements include a doctorate in Organizational Leadership with a specialization in educational administration, and bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Elementary Education. I also possess state certification as a school superintendent, K-12 Principal, and a parish school supervisor. I have thirty-two years of experience in education. I am a lifelong learner and believe in assisting students in becoming lifelong learners and achieving their academic goals. I served my local district as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, principal, supervisor, and district level implementation officer. Additionally, my teaching experience includes working with students in grades second, third, sixth, seventh, and eighth. Admittedly, Reading is my first passion, and creating opportunities for children to improve their reading abilities is my second. I have experience using DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) to assess and progress monitor student growth. My career in education has afforded me the opportunity to work with diverse student learners in small group settings and to develop educational programs for after school, Saturday School, and summer tutoring. I have planned and implemented the administration of state assessments. I am committed to developing active relationships between school and home, with parents and guardians. Throughout my career, I have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to educating students with diverse backgrounds and abilities, which possess various learning styles. I believe that my engaging classroom lesson designs have encouraged students to not only actively participate in class, but also take the initiative in setting their own academic goals and develop plans for achieving them. Lastly, as I reflect on my thirty-two years of teaching and learning, it is my hope that my dedication to education will continue to positively impact students in becoming caring and productive citizens of society.
