I recently retired from teaching after 20+ years and am excited to use my experience to tutor students online in English/Language Arts/Reading. Throughout my career, I have taught in various capacities in elementary and middle school grades. These include 2nd and 3rd grades, the Early Intervention Program K-5, the Gifted Program K-5, and 6th and 7th grade Reading. I have completed 50 hours of Orton-Gillingham training. I have a Master's Degree in Reading, Language, and Literacy, which qualifies me as a Reading Specialist and a Literacy Coach. I have effectively assisted my students in raising their Reading levels. As a 3rd-grade Reading teacher, my students scored the highest on their standardized tests than any other 3rd grade class on record at my school. As a 7th grade Reading teacher in a Title 1 school, my students, along with the ELA students, scored above the county average on the Georgia Milestone Assessment. I gained experience as a virtual classroom teacher during the COVID-19 epidemic. As a private tutor, I discovered that online teaching allows me to focus more on my student/s without the classroom distractions and thus affords me the time to more accurately assess, plan, and implement lessons that meet my students' individual needs.
