Hello, I am a New York State Licensed teacher (science 7-12). I have an MA in Teaching, graduate degrees in other areas from Northwestern and The University of Chicago. I have taught math, biology, living environment, earth science, history, and other subjects from K-12. My teaching has been at public and charter schools, camps and tutoring. How do I tutor your child? 1 – Students learn when they are engaged, or with joy. Failing that (I know this may not be their favorite activity), me and your student will make goals for what we want to do and celebrate our progress often. 2 – You, the parent is necessarily involved and are a key to success. You know your child. We will discuss the best approach. 3 – Students need practice to learn a concept. I will not lecture – but logically go step by step. Then, we will practice what we learn. 4 – There is no bad question. But a child will not always ask. In education, they call it formative assessment – a big word for probing what is known as we proceed. So many students don’t follow the lesson for many reasons, and then miss something, are afraid to ask, and fall behind. We will make your students comfortable. 5 - A teacher may say that there is some method to teach. Yes and no. 6 – Please ask any questions now, and while we work together for your child.
